Description

Skypat TP Tablet is a combination of  Aceclofenac (nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory agent – NSAIDs),  Paracetamol (an analgesic and antipyretic agent) and Thiocolchicoside (muscle relaxant) that are used to treat pain and relieve muscle stiffness, spasm and improves muscle movement. It is widely used in the treatment of pain and muscle spasms occurring due to sprains, strains and muscle injuries.

Mode of action 

The mode of action of Aceclofenac is largely based on the inhibition of prostaglandin synthesis. Aceclofenac is a potent inhibitor of the enzyme cyclo-oxygenase COX-1 and COX-2), which is involved in the production of prostaglandins. Prostaglandins are the chemical substances released by the body and promote inflammation, pain (mild to moderate) and fever.

Paracetamol has analgesic (pain killer) and antipyretic (reduce fever) properties. It produces analgesia by blocking chemical messengers in the brain that causes pain and shows antipyretic activity by acting on the hypothalamus (a gland present in the brain and is responsible for regulating the body temperature).

Thiocolchicoside is a glyco sulphurated analogue of colchicine. In preclinical studies, the drug was reported to have a selective affinity for gamma-aminobutyric acid (GABA) and glycinergic receptors; these properties appear to mediate skeletal muscle relaxant activity. There is evidence that muscle relaxant actions may result from direct activation of the GABA receptor at the spinal level.

Directions for use 

The recommended dosage is 1 Tablet to be taken twice daily after food or as directed by your physician

Side effects 

This medicine may cause side effects, although not everybody gets them. The most commonly observed adverse events are gastrointestinal in nature. Peptic ulcers, Perforation or GI bleeding, sometimes fatal, particularly in the elderly, may occur. Nausea, vomiting, Diarrhoea, flatulence, constipation, dyspepsia, abdominal pain, melaena, haematemesis, ulcerative Stomatitis, exacerbation of colitis and Crohn’s disease. 

Storage and safety information 

• Keep this medicine out of the sight and reach of children.
• NSAIDs like Aceclofenac should not be used during pregnancy or labour unless the potential benefit to the patient outweighs the potential risk to the fetus.
• In limited studies so far available, NSAIDs like Aceclofenac can appear in breast milk in very low concentrations. SKYPAT-TP should, if possible, be avoided when breastfeeding.
